SELECTMAN CHARLES HUGHES’ REMARKS
Charles Hughes thanked all who ran for election and all who voted and offered his congratulations to those who won, especially Ms. Gloff and Mr. Connolly for their election to this Board. He noted that he had worked with both and knew they would continue to work for Natick.
Mr. Hughes also thanked the citizens of Natick for allowing him the privilege of serving the Town and stated that he thoroughly enjoyed his service and was privileged to serve with hard working, talented, and dedicated volunteers and employees who always had the best interest of the Town in mind.
Natick was absolutely blessed with citizens who are talented and freely and willingly volunteer their time and expertise. In additional Natick has talented and hardworking employees who provide sources to the citizens.
Mr. Hughes thanked all his supporters and gave a special recognition to five people who had supported, advised and helped him through each of the four elections in which he had participated – Joanne Bergin, Sue Sullivan, Barbara Chinetti, Walter Salvi and Sue Shea to whom he was ever grateful. He told the story of how he met Ms. Shea and how she introduced him to this special town and its people.
Mr. Hughes also gave great thanks to Gay, the saint to whom he was married, and Colleen, the angel they raised here in Natick. They put up with the stress of four elections and 21 years of late meetings and supported him through his public service.
In parting, Mr. Hughes stated that he had no words of wisdom for the Board. He had worked with all of the members and knew them to be good, hardworking, thoughtful, dedicated and honorable people and knew they would continue to work together as a Board to make Natick a better place. He hoped he left Natick a better place than when he started.
Ms. Gloff noted that she personally had the opportunity to work with Mr. Hughes on the Finance Committee and Board of Selectmen and while she was looking forward to working with Mr. Connolly, at this moment she was sad to see Mr. Hughes go.
