DISCUSSION OF NATICK 360 PHASES I & III
Stephen Meyler and Karen Adelman Foster reported that as requested by the committee they had aggregated individual members’ comments on the proposed Phase I document, and had discussed the comments with Mr. David Parish, Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Oversight Committee (SPOC), and Ms. Rosemary Driscoll, the School Committee’s assignee to SPOC. SPOC will bring to the committee a revised draft for review.
Discussion was then held on the proposed Natick 360 Phase III document. Concerns were raised that the items to be put before the public for consideration might be perceived as having been recommended by the committee, that some of the items on the list were over broad, some over narrow, some not in the purvey of the schools. It was agreed by consensus that Mr. Meyler and Ms. Adelman Foster would continue their previous charge to aggregate the committee’s individual comments, this time on the Phase III document, and recommend changes to the SPOC committee and the School Committee as a whole.
DISCUSSION/DECISION REGARDING SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH CONSULTANTS
Discussion was held regarding the superintendent search process and the search consultants who had presented during the last meeting. Discussion and brainstorming were structured around three questions:
· In which special areas would you envision the consultant adding the greatest amount of value to our superintendent search process?
· When we hire a consultant, we will be entering into a close and intensive working relationship with them. What role do you see the School Committee playing and what role do you see the consultant playing?
· What do you see as the strengths of each consultant as they align with the subjective and objective criteria identified above?
Responses:
A vote was then held to choose two consultants as finalists. NESDEC and JA Roy were selected unanimously.
Chairman Wynn said he would check the references of JA Roy and NESDEC before the final selection. He also asked each member to call several communities that had recently conducted superintendent searches for their lessons learned, and said he would distribute community assignments and a standard set of questions.
At 11:05 p.m., Ms. Karen Adelman Foster moved to adjourn. Ms. Anne Blanchard seconded. It was unanimously approved.
