SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
May 17, 2006

The School Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 7:30 a.m. in the Training Room, Third Floor, Town Hall.  Chairman Haugland called the meeting to order at 7:50 a.m.   

Members Present:        Karen Adelman Foster, Dirk Coburn, Henry Haugland, Stephen Meyler, Dave Murphy, Rick Wynn

Members Absent  Ted Wynne

Others present: James Connolly  Superintendent
                        Audrey Seyffert Assistant Superintendent
                        Sharon Reilly   Recording Secretary
                        
CHILD STUDY PROCESS, SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCEDURES & SUPPORT SERVICES

Mrs. Audrey Seyffert provided an in-depth presentation of the Child Study Process, Special Education procedures and support services.  She reviewed the ACT process (Assisting Children & Teachers), types of interventions, eligibility for services, development of individualized education plans and placement.    

Discussion continued around the support services at the Bennett- Hemenway School.  Mr. Haugland moved for approval that if after a needs assessment has been conducted, the Principal at the Bennett-Hemenway School feels the need to hire an Assistant Principal and the Superintendent concurs, the School Committee authorizes the Superintendent to fill such an appointment.    Ms. Adelman Foster seconded.  It was unanimously approved.  

A discussion continued on the need for better communications.   


APPROVAL OF NON-REPRESENTED PERSONNEL SALARY STRUCTURE

At the School Committee meeting of May 15, 2006, the School Committee reviewed the non-represented personnel salary structure and a memorandum outlining various changes to the FY07 schedule.  Approval was given on the various changes, however, a vote on the list in its entirety needs to take place.   Mr. Wynn moved for approval of the FY07 non-represented personnel salary structure as presented.  Mr. Coburn seconded.  It was approved 5 to 0.  Mr. Meyler had left the meeting.

At 10:20 a.m., Mr. Rick Wynn moved to adjourn   Ms. Karen Adelman Foster  seconded.  It was unanimously approved.
