JOINT MEETING WITH SELECTMEN & STATE LEGISLATORS
The School Committee joined the Board of Selectmen for a joint meeting with State Legislators. Representative Alice Peisch, Representative David Linsky, Senator Karen Spilka and Senator Scott Brown were present. They provided updates on several matters such as Senior Tax Relief, Chapter 70 funds, Chapter 90 funds, Charter School Funding, SBAB funding, DEP issues, etc. Chair Packer raised concern that the Chapter 70 funding has still not caught up with the cuts it experienced a couple of years ago. Legislators stated that the present Chapter 70 amount will be the new baseline for the increases rather than restoring the cuts made previously.
At 8:15 p.m. the School Committee resumed its meeting on the third floor, Town Hall.
PUBLIC SPEAK
Chair Packer asked if anyone wished to come forward for Public Speak. Selectmen John Connolly came forward to raise a concern of a resident, Mr. Mike Lavezzo. Mr. Lavezzo has requested that a high school bus stop be added for the students who reside on North Avenue. They currently have to walk a half mile on a busy street to the bus stop. This item will be looked into and discussed at the meeting of December 5, 2005.
