SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
August 14, 2003
The School Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, August 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the School Committee Room, Third Floor, Town Hall. Chairman Haugland called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Chairman Haugland asked if anyone wished to come forward for public speak. No one came forward.
OPENING DAY UPDATE
Mr. Connolly provided an update on the opening of schools.
TO APPOINT THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR CURRICULUM,
INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT
Mr. Connolly introduced and recommended Dr. Karen Leacu LeDuc as the newly appointed Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. He requested that the School Committee confirm his recommendation. Mrs. Van Amsterdam moved for approval to confirm Mr. Connolly's appointment of Dr. LeDuc. Ms. Broekel seconded. It was unanimously approved.
TO APPROVE A WARRANT ARTICLE FOR THE OCTOBER TOWN MEETING
Mr. Connolly requested the School Committee's approval to put forth the following warrant article for the October Town Meeting:

To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate, or otherwise provide the funds necessary to implement the Terms of Agreement reached between the Natick School Committee and the following collective bargaining units:
a. Education Association of Natick - Unit A Teachers, Unit B Administrators and Unit C Nurses
b. Education Association of Natick - Educator Support Personnel
c. MTA Secretaries and Clerks Unit
d. Laborers International Union Local 1116 Maintenance and Custodial Unit
e. Non-represented personnel
Ms. Broekel moved for approval to submit the above article. Mrs. Van Amsterdam seconded. It was unanimously approved.
Mr. Haugland moved for approval to submit another article for the October Town Meeting for all of the capital improvement projects which have been on the School's list for several years. Mr. Wynne seconded. It was unanimously approved. Mr. Connolly will submit another article to cover Capital Projects.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
