Town Safety Committee Meeting Minutes June 26, 2007
Town of Natick
Safety Committee Minutes
June 26, 2007

The meeting was called to order by Chief Mannix at 10:00 a.m.

Members in attendance:          Chief Mannix                    Chief Sabourin
                                        Sgt. Lauzon                             Patrick Reffett
                                        Joan Craig                              John Slamin
                                        Robert Ward

Also in attendance:  Town of Natick Animal Control Officer, Keith Tosi

Approval of the May 29, 2007 Safety Committee Minutes:  The committee VOTED to approve the minutes of the May meeting.

Old Business:

Pegan Lane Access:  It was the committee's opinion that the placement of a portable barrier and appropriate signage was sufficient to deter motor vehicles from traveling up this roadway.  No further action is needed.

New Business:

Unsafe walk to/from school between North Main Street (near Dairy Queen) to the Bennett Hemenway School:  Sgt. Lauzon (Traffic Safety Officer) reported to the committee that he and Tom Hladick (Highway Engineer) walked the route between North Main Street and the Bennett Hemenway School.  Repairs will be made to the roadway as needed.  No further action needs to be taken at this time.

Animal control:  A Natick resident reported that there was a pit bull in her neighborhood who had been "attacking people and dogs."  Town of Natick Animal Control Officer Keith Tosi advised the committee that he will request a hearing to determine what, if any, action should be taken to control the situation.

Speen Street/Lanes End Safety Issue:  This is a revisit to the line-of sight issue for vehicles exiting Lanes End on to Speen Street.  The problem is a group of very large trees and a curve in the roadway that obscure motorists' view as they turn on Speen Street.  This is an engineering problem that is not likely to be addressed in the foreseeable future due to the complexity and expense related to abatement of the problem.

Handicapped Signage at Stop & Shop:  A request was made by the town of Natick parking clerk regarding adequate signage for handicapped parking in the parking lot of the Super Stop & Shop.  The committee was advised by Sgt. Lauzon (Traffic Safety Sergeant) that the issue was already resolved.  No action was taken on this issue.
