Safety Committee Minutes
February 24, 2004
The meeting was called to order by Chief Mannix, chairman, at 10:15 a.m.

The minutes of the December 23, 2003, Safety Committee meeting were approved to be reported to the Board of Selectmen.
Walnut/Bacon/Chestnut Street Intersection Design
No members of the neighborhood group were present at this meeting to discuss the proposed redesign of the intersection. Representatives will be invited to the March meeting to discuss the plan.
Nokomis Way – Request for Hydrant Identifier
The committee discussed the petitioner’s concern that in a snowstorm of some magnitude the hydrant would be difficult to find. Mr. Coviello indicated that each fire truck had maps with detailed fire hydrant locations.
Michigan Drive – Request for No Parking Zone
The committee discussed the concern of Philips Metrology Systems regarding vehicles parked near their driveway entrance impeding access and egress of trucks delivering supplies to the business. The committee voted to post no parking the area from the west end of the driveway westerly for a distance of twenty feet.
West Street – Campus Drive Signage
The committee discussed the concerns offered by Natick High School Vice-Principal Mr. Galvin regarding vehicle and pedestrian safety in this area. The committee voted to recommend posting pedestrian crossing signs at the crosswalk joining the Natick High property to the sidewalk on West Street. The matter of placing additional stop signs was tabled pending further discussion with school officials. The matter of speeding vehicles in the area will be monitored by police department personnel, in the normal course of duty.
Traffic Supervisor – Wilson Middle School
The police department’s fiscal year 2005 budget request includes a traffic supervisor position for the Wilson Middle School. If Town Meeting approves this request, the requested position will be filled.
