URGENT!!
INSECT PEST NEWS
There is a serious pest problem in the city of Worcester. You have probably heard the city of Worcester has found Asian Longhorn Beetle in the northwest part of the city along West Boylston and Brooks streets including Kendrick Park. The Federal Government has been trying to eradicate this from New York City for about 10 years by cutting down and burning the infected trees. This is the only effective control. Pesticide controls are not effective.
No one knows how this beetle arrived in Worcester but it could have very easily been brought back to Mass, unknowingly attached to the car of someone who had been visiting the infected areas in New York.
It can spread the same way locally and it does fly a limited distance. If you have been to the infected areas of Worcester, keep an eye out for this insect. Be diligent, do not be complacent. If this insect spreads it can be devastating. It is known to feed on many species of trees.
A hot line has been set up to report sightings.
