1. The President welcomed Ms. Stetson to her new role as Director. He noted that he and Ms. Stetson would appear before the Town’s Cost Control Committee in October.
2. Ms. Stetson provided the Trustees with an update on her first several weeks of activities. She has been very much involved with the community in a variety of ways meeting with Town officials and department heads. She has appeared and was introduced at a Selectmen’s meeting and has attended several Rotary meetings to meet business persons.
3. Ms. Finlay reported on increased library usage and provided the Trustees with data illustrating year-to-year comparisons, as well as a four-year growth pattern. In the latter case, Adult Print Materials have witnessed a growth of 21.92% between July of FY05 and July FY10. Overall growth in circulation in that five year period is 5.65%.
(And, people were not going to read print materials anymore????) (Ed. Comment)
4. Ms. Finlay presented a modified schedule for Sunday openings after Labor. Day. The Trustees voted unanimously to approve it. Essentially, the Library will be open on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Sunday after Labor Day until the Sunday before the Memorial Day weekend.
5. Ms. Smith, Supervisor of Children’s Services, provided the Trustees with a report on that department’s work, the extensive programming that it offers, research services that it provides and the popularity that it has among parents and its age-appropriate patrons, children in age to ten or eleven. Over the many years of her services, the greatest change in the “life” of the department is the acquisition and utilization of computers.
6. Ms. Nardi, Community Relations Coordinator, spoke to the issue of the Capital Campaign. Last year 1008 persons were solicited and some 300 responded for a total of $20,000 raised. The challenge this year is to raise $50,000. The discussion on this topic will continue at the September meeting of the Trustees.
Ms. Nardi noted that the Library would be offering basic computer training to members of the Fire Department.
Meeting Adjourned: 5:25 p.m.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, September 8th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Library.
