Minutes of December 9, 2008 Meeting
Trustees Present: Harriet Buckingham, Kathleen Donovan, Gerald Mazor and Joseph Keefe

Call to Order: 4:00 pm
Actions of the Board of Trustees:
1. Approved the minutes of the Board's meeting of November 18, 2008
2. Approved the draft "Job Description" for the position of Library Director
3. Approved the establishment of a pay schedule for the Acting Director.
Such schedule reflects Step 1 of the Director's pay schedule as set forth
in the Town of Natick Classification and Pay Plan - $71,993.83.
(The President is charged with informing the Town Administrator of this action.)
4. Approved a motion to include the Resolution of the Minuteman Library Network,
a "Resolution in Memory of Paula Polk" in the minutes of this meeting.
See Annex attached and made part of these minutes.
Report of the Acting Director:
1. Ms. Finlay reported on the installation of additional security cameras in the building.
2. Informed the Board that Children First Natick will have vacated its office space in the building
effective January 1, 2009.
3. Reported on the installation of a new stained glass window in the Children's library.
4. Reviewed with the Trustees the updated Action Plan.
5. Discussed the ongoing work of the Library's staff to upgrade the institution's website.
Other Actions and Reports:
1. The Board asked the Acting Director to provide it with a 20 minute presentation on an
aspect of the Action Report as a Trustees' education segment.
2. Ms. Finlay described her work with the Town Administrator's office on the FY10 budget
preparation. She is meeting with the Town financial officials on December 19th.
3. Ms. Nardi reported on her work to enhance the Library's public relations and publicity
program through developing relationships with Globe West Weekly, the MetroWest Daily News
and the Natick Bulletin and Tab. She led a discussion of the Library's 135th Year Celebration
that is scheduled for Sunday, January 4, 2009. The program will celebrate the fact that the
institution opened its doors in a Commemorative Ceremony on Christmas Day 1873 and
began public distribution of materials on January 1, 1874. Reenactments,
exhibits of historical materials and tours of the institution and the neighborhood will mark the day.
