Commission on Disability Minutes 01/08/03
NATICK COMMISSION ON DISABILITY
Minutes of January 8, 2003

PRESENT:  Mel Hirsh, Russell Thome, Joan Sherizen, Gwen Kermode
ABSENT:  Sandi Crossman, Cheryl Frieir, Ron Ordway

MINUTES: A motion by Mel, seconded by Joan to accept the minutes of December 11, 2002 as printed.  Approved unanimously.

DENNIS POLSELLI-DISABILITY CONSORIUM – Dennis called and asked if he could reschedule to the February meeting.  Gwen told him that was fine and will put him on the agenda for the February 12, 2003 meeting.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Gwen passed out the January ADA Compliance Guide, the MCDHH Newsletter

TEASURER’S REPORT:  Gwen made a motion to table until our next meeting.  Motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

HANDICAPPED PARKING ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM:   Mel said that he was able to get four more cameras from Polaroid which will be sent to Gwen to replace a couple that are broken.  

IL CENTER REPORT:  Gwen will call Paul Spooner to discuss what we are looking for and see if they can work with us.

AWARENESS/ACCESS ISSUES:  
        Schools:  We still need to do Kennedy

        Businesses:  Owen O’Leary’s and Hampton Inn are waiting for signs that have been ordered by Gwen.  As soon as she receives them she will get them to Hampton Inn.  They have been very cooperative.

                Sherwood Plaza West is done.  East, which may include Pizza Hut and Pet World, has no HP parking at all.  Gwen has sent an e-mail to Bruce Leader of the Management Co. for Sherwood Plaza.  

                Leonard Morse Campus, Metrowest Medical Center – some sign issues remain, striping has been done.

                Need surveyed – Wendy’s Rte. 9, Wendy’s Rte. 135, Rose Carpet, Cloverleaf Mall (recheck)Sovereign Bank, Building 19 again, Stop & Shop, Staples, BankNorth, CVS on 135, Town Paint (recheck), Dairy Queen (recheck), Crowne Plaza (recheck), Golf Masters, Natick Outdoor Store,

                Gwen has spoken to or met with White Hen, Honey Farms, Firestone/Dunkin Donuts, and Home Depot.

                Natick Mall – Russell did the front parking garage.  The rest needs to be surveyed and then we should meet with the Mall Management and Facilities Director.

        Town:  Audio/tactile signals- the company has ordered the additional units needed and will install all once those are in.  There is 6 to 8 week time frame for delivery.  

        Housing:  Joan or Mel and Gwen will survey.

        General Public:  Cable TV – John MacGillivray has scheduled the studio on January 14th for the day and will be taping various Town departments and Commissions.  The Commission agreed that they would like to on.  

MISCELLANEOUS:  There are two openings on the Commission.  We would like the Board of Selectmen to re-advertise for these openings.  Gwen will write a letter of request.
